बिहार, झारखंड और उत्तर प्रदेश के बाजारों में इन दिनों चमचमाते बड़े-बड़े सेब लोगों को लुभा रहे हैं। लेकिन इन सेबों की चमक असल में सेहत पर भारी पड़ सकती है। जांच में सामने आया है कि ये तथाकथित “चाइनीज सेब” नेपाल के रास्ते अवैध रूप से भारत में घुस रहे हैं। इन पर आर्टिफिशियल वैक्स और केमिकल इंजेक्शन का इस्तेमाल किया जाता है ताकि ये लंबे समय तक ताजे दिखें। डॉक्टरों के मुताबिक ऐसे सेब पेट की बीमारियां, एसिडिटी, एलर्जी और नर्वस सिस्टम पर असर डाल सकते हैं। उत्तर बिहार के सीमावर्ती जिलों में इन सेबों की सप्लाई तेजी से बढ़ी है। तस्कर इन्हें लोकल सेब बताकर बाजार में बेच रहे हैं। यानी सेहत के नाम पर लोग अनजाने में ज़हर खरीद रहे हैं।
🟥 नेपाल बॉर्डर बना चाइनीज सेब का अड्डा, 170 कार्टून जब्त फिर भी तस्कर बेखौफ
भारत–नेपाल सीमा से सटे गांव अब चाइनीज सेब की तस्करी के नए ठिकाने बनते जा रहे हैं। हाल ही में बॉर्डर से सटे एक गांव से 170 कार्टून चाइनीज सेब जब्त किए गए। इससे पहले महाराजगंज इलाके में 490 कार्टून फल और 120 बोरी मक्का बरामद की गई थी, लेकिन तस्कर फरार हो गए। 27 जुलाई को सीतामढ़ी में भारत–नेपाल सीमा पर Sashastra Seema Bal ने 120 पेटी चाइनीज सेब पकड़े और एक मिनी ट्रक जब्त किया। आरोपी नेपाल के सर्लाही जिले का निवासी निकला। मई 2025 में नेपाल पुलिस ने भी 14 लाख रुपये के चाइनीज सेब से लदे ट्रक को पकड़ा था। बावजूद इसके तस्करी का खेल थम नहीं रहा। सवाल उठता है—जब लगातार कार्रवाई हो रही है, तो ये ज़हरीले फल बाजार तक कैसे पहुंच रहे हैं?

तस्करी से आने वाले चाइनीज सेब सिर्फ गैरकानूनी ही नहीं, बल्कि सेहत के दुश्मन भी हैं। इन सेबों को बड़ा और आकर्षक बनाने के लिए प्रतिबंधित इंजेक्शन और वैक्स कोटिंग का इस्तेमाल किया जाता है। विशेषज्ञों के अनुसार इनमें मौजूद केमिकल शरीर में पहुंचते ही एक्टिव हो जाते हैं और नर्वस सिस्टम, लिवर और पेट पर सीधा असर डालते हैं। पहचान भी आसान है—ये सेब प्लास्टिक की जाली में लिपटे होते हैं, बहुत ज्यादा चमकदार, गोल और गुलाबी या पीले रंग के होते हैं। स्वाद में ये बेहद मीठे और भुरभुरे लगते हैं, जबकि असली सेब हल्के खट्टे होते हैं। कस्टम अधिकारियों का कहना है कि भारत में चाइनीज सेब की बिक्री पूरी तरह प्रतिबंधित है। इसके बावजूद नेपाल बॉर्डर के रास्ते ये सेब गोरखपुर, सोनौली और ठुठीबारी से होते हुए देशभर में खपाए जा रहे हैं।
Poison in Disguise: Chinese Apple Smuggling Exposed on the Bihar–Nepal Border
For the people of Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, the shiny red apples flooding local markets may look tempting, but behind their glossy surface lies a dangerous truth. Investigations reveal that large quantities of so-called “Chinese apples” are being smuggled into India through the Nepal border and sold as ordinary fruit. These apples are coated with artificial wax and treated with chemical injections to increase shelf life and appearance, making them harmful for human consumption.
In recent raids near the border villages of north Bihar, security agencies seized around 170 cartons of Chinese apples. Earlier, at the Maharajganj border, 490 cartons of Chinese fruit and 120 sacks of maize were recovered, though smugglers managed to escape. On July 27, near Sitamarhi, the Sashastra Seema Bal intercepted a mini-truck carrying 120 boxes of Chinese apples being brought from Nepal for sale in Indian markets. Similar seizures were reported in Sarlahi district of Nepal in May 2025, where a truck loaded with apples worth nearly ₹14 lakh was stopped by Nepal Police.
Doctors warn that these chemically treated apples pose serious health risks. Regular consumption can cause stomach disorders, acidity, allergies and even damage to the nervous system. Experts say these apples can be identified by their unusually bright shine, perfect round shape, plastic net covering and extremely sweet, soft taste—very different from natural apples that have a mild sour flavor.
Although the sale of Chinese apples is officially banned in India, smuggling networks continue to exploit porous border routes such as Sonouli, Thuthibari and Gorakhpur. Authorities have promised stricter surveillance, but until the network is completely dismantled, consumers are advised to remain alert. What looks like a healthy fruit may, in reality, be a slow-acting poison entering homes through illegal trade.
